NC in Creative Industries (Fashion & Textiles)

Designed for learners who have completed the Kindred Clothing Award and want to deepen their skills.

This course offers a more technical and industry-focused experience, including advanced garment construction, portfolio development, and real-world insights into fashion and textiles. Learners gain practical knowledge while building connections to creative industries.

Introduction

This course is for graduates of our Kindred Clothing Award.

  • SCQF Level 6, worth 12 credits
  • Delivered by industry professionals (CMLP members)
  • Usually delivered over x15 sessions in small cohorts of 3 – 5 learners

 

Course Content

The course is made up of 9 units, namely:

  • Industrial Machine Sewing Skills: An Introduction
  • Garment Design for Manufacture: An Introduction
  • Sewing Skills for Shoulder Suspended Garments
  • Garment Pattern Construction: An Introduction
  • Pattern Construction: Shoulder Suspended Garments
  • Develop and Manufacture: Bodice
  • Creative Industries: Understanding a Creative Brief
  • Creative Industries: Working with a Creative Brief
  • Creative Industries: Presenting a Creative Product

Course Requirements

Units 1 – 6 are taught by a tutor (a CMLP member) whilst units 7 – 9 require that learners take responsibility for their own learning.

All sewing will take place on an Industrial Sewing machine.

Evidence is compiled through:

Portfolio
All the rudiments and techniques and garments produced will become part of the learner’s portfolio.

Journal
Each learner is required to keep an up to date journal of each session undertaken.

Entry Requirements

The main entry requirement is to be a graduate of Kindred Clothing Award (Garment Construction).

Commitment to a career in the fashion industry.

Ability to sew well is fundamental.

Assessment Method

Formative Assessment using direct assessment methods are employed to assess the knowledge and competence of learners. This includes observation and questioning.

There is no exam!

Application Process

Courses will periodically be advertised through Front Lounge channels, and directly marketed to Kindred Clothing graduates.

The application stages include:

CV
A CV will need to be submitted by a stipulated deadline.

Interview
Successful candidates will then be invited to interview with a panel of CMLP members and Learning Centre staff.

Portfolio
A key part of the interview process will the candidate’s demonstration of their potential through their existing portfolio of previous produced garments.

Allocation & Start Date
Successful candidates will be informed of their start date.
